Easy DIY Christmas Ornament Keepsake 2022

Here is an easy DIY Ornament keepsake that you can make in an afternoon, with a few simple materials along with your kids’ picture, Nightmare Before Christmas, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Toy Story, Baby’s First Christmas, Lego, Charlie Brown, or any other image that is memorable to you! This is also a great gift for teachers, grandparents, or friends!

Materials:

Steps:

Print a photo – make sure it’s approximately the same size as the ornament. Cut the photo to size. It’s best to print the photo on regular paper (NOT photo paper). Regular paper is easier to manipulate with the Mod Podge.

Remove the top of the ornament, it’s easier to handle it this way.

Using a small paintbrush, paint Mod Podge onto the ornament. Paint the backside of the photo as well. Place the photo on the ornament, and center it to your liking. Continue to apply Mod Podge to the photo until it is secure on the ornament. There will be some creases, that is ok. Try to manipulate the creases so they aren’t interfering with the main area of the photo.

Allow the photo to dry completely.

Using a spare piece of wrapping paper, apply some Mod Podge, and continuing wrapping the paper around the mid-section of the ornament. Leave the top and bottom of the wrapping paper for now. You can cut a hole in the wrapping paper now to allow the photo to show through.

Cut slits into the bottom of the wrapping paper, this will allow you to fold down individual sections and glue them in place. Working in a circle, apply Mod Podge to each section, until the entire bottom of the ornament has been covered. Allow this to dry.

Along the top of the ornament, cut slits every inch or so, like you did with the bottom. This will allow you to again, fold each section down and glue it. Careful not to glue up the neck of the ornament. Once each section is glued down, apply a final coat of Mod Podge to the entire ornament, especially the photo. This will ensure it holds up to wear and tear over the years. If this is a keepsake with a family photo, it might be a great idea to write the year on the bottom, or print off a pretty font with the persons name and add it to the ornament. Allow the glue to fully dry.

Add the top of the ornament and a hook/string to hang it from.

If this is a keepsake with a family photo, it might be a great idea to write the year on the bottom, or print off a pretty font with the persons name and add it to the ornament. When you are making DIY things, the only limit is your imagination! Buddy is so excited to hear about your homemade ornaments!
